This site began as a side project in late 2006 which simply sought to catalogue some information about my 944 Turbo S, as well as a place to post pictures and information about my car. Originally, the site was written in simple XHTML markup, and hosted on Bravenet – a free web hosting service with limited capabilities (no PHP, no MySQL, and so forth).

Upon the release of the first few pages (hosted at 944turbo.bravehost.com – which now redirected here), the project quickly evolved into a more comprehensive resource, which not only relied on written content, but also on archival material (images, articles, advertisements, and other documents).

From early 2007 onward, the site expanded to encompass not simply general information about the 944 Turbo, but also information about the 924 GTP and other early developments in the 944’s history. Content was expanded, and a number of sources were referenced to ensure the all information presented was accurate. Moreover, the site was moved to a new host (944turbo.web44.net), where the design was improved and optimized for a multiplicity of browsers (Firefox and Safari, for instance).

As of April 13, 2008, the site was officially released in what might be considered a beta form. Although some content is complete (such as the Turbo S content), the scope of the project means that a fraction of the desired end has been met. In future, the site will be a comprehensive historical database of information for 944 Turbo owners, and feature various types of media, including pictures, and audio and video, as well as other published material.

Moreover, the current iteration of the website is running off of a modified WordPress blog system. Although the switch has meant that the content of the site is now less than previous iterations (read above), the efficiency of the PHP/MySQL based system means that such content (images, articles, documents, and so forth) will rapidly be added to the website in the coming months.
